of the church for those who may have difficulty walking. Thank you!
The Lynn United Methodist Cluster Ministries has offered to match
any funds that the United Methodist Churches of Lynn raise to help support My
Brother's Table. If
you did not get the opportunity to donate within the past couple of weeks,
there is still time to do so. We will continue to raise funds at Grace through
the 1st Sunday in March.
My Brother's Table is
privately funded and does not receive nor seek federal, state, or local
aid. The Table is not a United Way affiliate. Funding comes
from individual donations, donations such as ours at Grace, a few
fundraising events, and private grants.
If you would like to
donate, you can write a check to Grace Church and designate in the memo line
"Souper Bowl of Caring", or "My
Brother's Table." You may also place any cash donations in an
envelope marked accordingly. (There are envelopes available in the
Narthex) Remember, any donation you make will be matched by The
Cluster!
Annual
Reports for 2009 are available in the Narthex.
It’s
not too late to place your pledge cards in the
collection plate or send to Grace UMC, P.O. Box 8070, Lynn, MA 01904. 2010
Pledge cards are available in the Narthex or by calling the church office at
781-599-4050.

Clothes Closet is open Saturdays, 10:00 am to 12 noon and is

ONE GREAT HOUR OF SHARING
March 14
This Special Sunday with offering enables the
United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) to respond to disasters around the
world by covering the costs of its doing business. Because of OGHS, gifts to
specific UMCOR programs go 100% to the designated project.
One Great Hour of Sharing calls the Church
to share the goodness of life with those who hurt.
“Lent is
the season of repentance, self-examination, and awareness of the hurts of the
people of the world. One Great Hour of Sharing calls the
Church to share the goodness of life with those who hurt” (¶ 263.2, The United
Methodist Book of Discipline 2008).
In 1946,
One Great Hour of Sharing began as a special effort of the Episcopal Church. In
1949, the observance became ecumenical. Originally, one special worship hour
during the year was reserved for people of faith to contribute over and above
their regular offerings. Today different denominations celebrate OGHS on
various dates, but the cooperative spirit remains.
Many
people around the world lack necessities of life such as food, shelter and
clothing. The OGHS offering makes those necessities a reality by sharing the
goodness of life with those who hurt. When a catastrophe occurs, such as the
recent earthquake in Haiti, your OGHS offerings assist UMCOR to provide
humanitarian aid.
Unlike
other mission programs, UMCOR receives no World Service or other apportionment
money. By giving to One Great Hour of Sharing, you enable UMCOR to keep the
promise that 100% of designated gifts go to specified causes.
Offering
gifts over and above those used to cover administrative costs are channeled
where they're most needed. UMCOR's specialized ministries responding in
disaster, fighting hunger, alleviating poverty, providing relief supplies
around the world, and offering hospitality to immigrants and refugees all
assist the most vulnerable people whose need is greatest.
In 2008,
the OGHS offering totaled $3,212,946, an average of only 41 cents per U.S.
member. If every member gave $1, that would total more than $7.8 million!
